Eighteen Years of Healing, Partnership, and Measurable Community Impact
In the heart of Kicukiro Sector, Gasave Village, stands a health institution whose story is inseparable from the wellbeing of the community it serves. Bethsaida Health Center, established in 2007 through a strategic partnership between Kicukiro District and Zion Temple Celebration Center, has grown into a trusted frontline healthcare provider—one that consistently delivers accessible, high-quality medical services aligned with Rwanda’s national health priorities.
From the very beginning, Bethsaida Health Center was founded on a clear and compelling vision: to bring healthcare closer to the people while ensuring compassion, dignity, and professional excellence. Eighteen years later, this vision is reflected not only in stories of transformed lives, but also in measurable data that demonstrates sustained impact.
A Health Center Defined by Data and Trust
Bethsaida Health Center serves a target population of over 15,000 people annually, as defined by the Ministry of Health at the start of each year. Notably, for the past five consecutive years, the facility has consistently exceeded these annual service delivery targets, a strong indicator of community trust, effective management, and high demand for its services.
In 2024, the health center served 17,714 patients, surpassing its expected coverage. By November 2025, 14,899 people had already received care, placing the facility on track to once again exceed its annual target. These figures highlight Bethsaida’s critical role in absorbing healthcare demand and easing pressure on referral hospitals.
On a monthly basis, the health center records an average of 1,264 outpatient consultations, managing a wide range of primary healthcare needs—from common illnesses to chronic conditions—at the community level.
Strengthening Maternal and Child Health Outcomes
Maternal and child health remains a cornerstone of Bethsaida’s service delivery model. Each month, approximately 70 mothers receive antenatal and postnatal care, translating to about 840 maternal consultations annually. These services are complemented by family planning, immunization, growth monitoring, and nutrition programs that support healthy development from pregnancy through early childhood.
The recent introduction of ecography (ultrasound) services represents a significant step forward in improving early diagnosis and prenatal monitoring. This addition has reduced referral delays, enhanced clinical decision-making, and strengthened maternal health outcomes within the community.
Continuity of Care for Chronic Conditions
Bethsaida Health Center plays a vital role in the management of chronic and communicable diseases, particularly HIV. Currently, 1,301 patients are enrolled in structured HIV care and follow-up programs. Through continuous monitoring, counseling, and adherence support, the health center contributes meaningfully to national efforts aimed at improving long-term treatment outcomes and quality of life.
Accessible Healthcare Through Insurance Coverage
To ensure inclusivity and affordability, Bethsaida Health Center serves patients covered under Mutuelle de Santé, MMI, and RSSB. This broad insurance coverage allows individuals and families from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to access essential healthcare services without financial barriers, reinforcing the center’s role as an equitable community health provider.
Strong Governance and Institutional Collaboration
A defining strength of Bethsaida Health Center lies in its collaborative governance framework. The facility operates in close partnership with Kicukiro District and works hand in hand with the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), local authorities, and other healthcare stakeholders to ensure full alignment with national health standards and policies.
In addition, Masaka District Hospital provides ongoing technical supervision, staff mentorship, and management support, strengthening service quality and institutional capacity. Zion Temple Church continues to play a foundational role in supporting the health center’s vision, sustainability, and values-driven leadership.
Navigating Challenges While Sustaining Excellence
Despite its strong performance, Bethsaida Health Center faces notable infrastructure constraints. Limited physical space and growing population pressure have led to overcrowding and restricted the expansion of service rooms. Nevertheless, the health center continues to deliver consistent, high-quality care—demonstrating resilience, innovation, and commitment in the face of operational challenges.
Strategic investment in infrastructure expansion would unlock even greater capacity and enhance service delivery across all departments.
A Visit That Reaffirmed the Founding Vision
On Monday 15th December 2025, Apostle Dr. Paul Gitwaza, founder and President AWM/ZTCC, paid a pastoral visit to the facility he helped establish nearly two decades ago. During his visit, he interacted with patients and healthcare workers, prayed for the sick, and offered blessings to a new mother who had just given birth.
This moment powerfully captured the heart of Bethsaida’s mission—where professional healthcare delivery and compassionate, faith-inspired service meet to restore hope and dignity. Check more pictures of the visit here:
Looking Ahead
As Bethsaida Health Center continues its journey, its impact remains clear: consistent target overachievement, strong partnerships, expanding services, and deep community trust. With continued collaboration between government institutions, faith-based partners, and healthcare stakeholders, the health center is well positioned to strengthen its infrastructure, expand capacity, and serve even more lives in the years ahead.
Bethsaida Health Center is not just a place of treatment—it is a living testimony of healing, partnership, and measurable transformation within the Kicukiro community.
